The planet Venus accompanies the Sun in a close apparent orbit, showing up just before dawn, and called by the Greeks Phosphorus, the morning star, the bringer of light. The chemical element phosphorus emits a glowing light when exposed to oxygen and so was named for that property.
Venus also appears just after sunset as the evening star, called Hesperus.
The Sun is a manifestation of spirit or Being, while Venus is a manifestation of the Divine Feminine. Phosphorus and Hesperus contain the mystery of the unfoldment of the Divine Mother from the Holy Spirit, seen on the Kabbalistic tree of life as the sephirah Binah.
The Holy Spirit (Holy Breath) as Phosphorus is the sexual force bringing light, love, and illumination. The Divine Mother as Hesperus brings liberation through mystical death.
