What does it mean to have spirituality harmony with sexuality? Traditional religions structures that require celibacy and renunciation of relationships to achieve a connection with God are unfortunately pointing to a dead-end path. Sexual energy is creative energy. Sexual function allows divine creative action to unfold in the world.
Sexual connection, intimacy, joy, and bonding is the birthright of every human.
Sexuality carries tremendous power- to create through conception and childbirth, and to destroy through heartbreak, abuse, emotional manipulation, and violations driven by lust, confusion, and violence.
The process and practice of spiritualizing the sexual energy requires dedication, time, and a coherent and complete teaching.
Gnosis teaches that the spiritual yearnings of the heart and soul are not at odds with sexual appetite and sexual libido.
What unites spirituality and sexuality is love.
What separates the spiritual values from sexual action is ignorance of what the Being is, and identification with materialism and sensation.
The Being
The Being is our inner God, and inner Divine Mother. The Being is not a person or an entity, the Being is the living Tree of Life within us. Like any tree it must be nourished and attended to in order to flourish.
The tree of life is the outgrowth of the values of the Being. Divine and sacred values such as truth, honesty, patience, tolerance, fortitude, courage, faith etc.
The nourishment of these values comes from daily practice in meditation to gradually awaken the consciousness, and from attentiveness in our day to our interactions with others adn how we use our word and actions.
The Waters of Life
Crucially, the tree of life is saturated and irrigated with the waters of life which are the sexual fluids, secretions, and hormones, but elevated and purified.
Lustful actions, sexual violence, or self-abuse will never nourish a spiritual life, and in fact starves the spiritual values from ever developing.
Along with meditation, relaxation, prayer, and self-discovery we need transmutation of the sexual energy.
Spiritual Values in Relationship
Spiritualizing sexuality, or bringing in spiritual values to a sexual relationship, is simple.
What will lead to a harmonious and loving relationship, truth and honesty, or lies and deceit?
What will build trust, willingness or refusal to commit?
What will grow intimacy, attentiveness to your beloved or ignoring and neglecting them?
We can see very clearly that sexuality and spirituality are not separate at all, and to spiritualize sexuality is very practical.
Practice living out the values of the Being, renouncing the priorities of the selfish ego, and let love grow.
